Ghanaian footballer and former captain of Black Stars of Ghana,  Asamoah Gyan, has announced his retirement from international football just weeks to the start of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.



His decision comes as he was replaced as Ghana captain, with Andre Ayew likely to be given the role in Egypt.



The 33-year-old who plays as a striker for Turkish club Kayserispor issued a statement on Twitter through his Asamoah Gyan Foundation.






Part of his statement read: "As an active footballer yet to retire, I have been in the team since 2003 and have played with some members of the technical team who were my seniors. Through such periods, they were no times substantive captians were part of a team in a tournament and had to surrender their captaincy to other players and served in different capacities.



"I also wish to retire from the national team permanently."

Gyan who has been with the Black Stars for 16 years netted 51 goals in 106 international appearances.

A middle aged man popularly known as papa Ebube residing in Aritelin area in yenagoa took his own life by hanging in the early hours on Sunday. According to residents in the area, papa Ebube may have commited suicide because he lost his bet nija ticket that could have earned him thirty six million naira. Documents found in his possession when the police arrived, revealed that, the deseased was a graduate, a tricycle  rider and a great lover of sports whose son is expected to graduate from the Nigerian  military school this year. Neighbour's told our reporter that papa Ebube was a jolly good fellow in the neighborhood, had two wives and two children living with him but left when they constantly suffered domestic violence under his watch Suicide is not an option.
